WLAN on the Montanuniversität campus

General information

Users of the eduroam network on campus are subject to the Fair Use Policy regarding usage and data transfer limits.

In this context, we would like to refer you to the ACOnet Acceptable Use Policyand the ICT Operating and Usage Regulations.

Two Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) are available on the Montanuniversität campus:

  • eduroam: Can be used by members of the Montanuniversität (staff, students, external collaborators) and by eduroam guests.
  • mul-guest: Is intended for use by temporary guests such as maintenance companies, conference participants, trade fair attendees, etc.

Setup

Transferring a Wi-Fi Device

Before transferring your Wi-Fi device to another user, we strongly recommend that you first delete the Wi-Fi profile stored on the device (which contains your username and, if applicable, your password!).

Available Services

To the Internet: No restrictions.

To the Montanuniversität network:

  • Staff: No restrictions except for areas protected by internal firewalls.
  • Students: Public services accessible from the Internet.
  • External staff: Public services accessible from the Internet. Special access permissions for specific user groups are possible.

Connection Issues

If, after successfully establishing a VPN connection, you are having trouble accessing public websites (e.g., orf.at or google.at), this is likely due to the client connecting via IPv6. To resolve the issue, please follow these instructions:

If your organization participates in eduroam, you can also use it at the Montanuniversität.

The services available on the Montanuniversität's eduroam Wi-Fi network comply with the eduroam Service Definition and Implementation Plan:

WLAN as a guest at an eduroam member institution

General information

The Montanuniversität Leoben is a participant in the global “education roaming” eduroam network.

Members of the Montanuniversität (staff, students, external collaborators) can therefore access Wi-Fi at any organization participating in eduroam.

If eduroam is available on the campus of an organization you are visiting, you will find the eduroam Wi-Fi network (SSID) there; in rare cases, it may be eduroamwith a suffix (e.g., eduroam-wu). We strongly recommend that you first set up and test eduroam on the Montanuniversität campus before using it at another location.

Which network/Internet services are available to you as a visitor is at the discretion of the host organization! If a service of the Montanuniversität is not directly accessible via eduroam (e.g., HCL Notes), establishing a VPN connection to the Montanuniversität may help.

The following is a list of the services defined in the eduroam Service Definition and Implementation Plan, which should always be available to ensure a consistent user experience (however, this is not guaranteed!):
