Microsoft Server 2016/ 2019 Lizenzmodell
With Windows Server 2016, Microsoft is changing the licensing model. Whereas licensing was previously based on the number of processors, it is now based on the number of processor cores.
Whereas previously one license was required per processor, in the future, one license will cover 2 cores. The number of licenses required is now determined by the number of cores per processor. Please note that at least 8 cores per physical processor and at least 16 cores per server must be licensed!
The new licensing model applies to Server 2016 Standard and DataCenter.
Example:
A server with 2 processors, each with 6 cores, is to be licensed for Server 2016 Standard. A total of 12 CPU cores would need to be licensed. At least 8 core licenses per processor and at least 16 core licenses per server must be licensed, meaning 2 x 8 core licenses or 1 x 16 core licenses must be purchased.
