E-Mail

About ...

Email services at the University of Mining are provided through the HCL Notes groupware system (formerly “IBM Notes” or “Lotus Notes”). In addition, appointment management and scheduling, as well as other in-house applications, are also handled by this system. For more information, click here.

Access options

The HCL Notes Client is the best way to access emails and applications on the Domino server. The installation of the HCL Notes Client is performed by the call center after the user account has been created.

Access via IMAP and POP3 is only possible using the SSL-encrypted versions of these protocols—when choosing your email client, make sure it supports these protocols!

Current versions of Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook support these protocols. The SMTP server (outgoing mail server) is only accessible within the university network, meaning that sending email outside the university network is not possible!

  • Webmail offers fully encrypted transmission (SSL). All you need to use this service is a browser (Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.). Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled in your browser.
  • Please use your MUonline username (pxxxxxxx) and your internet passwordas your username and password.

You can access the webmail interface at the following address https://nmail.unileoben.ac.at.

You can also receive your emails on your smartphone.
If you are using this service for the first time, you must first have your account activated by ICT; this is done by submitting a request via CCDB [HCL Notes Call Center Database].

Download the IBM Verse app from the Play Store (for Android) and install it. You will then be asked to enter the following three pieces of information:

  • Username: Your MUonline username (pxxxxxxx)
  • Password: Your Internet password
  • Server: nmobile.unileoben.ac.at

You don’t need an additional app for iOS. For further instructions on how to set it up correctly, please see hier.

Archiving

Emails that are older than one year are automatically moved to the archive server to reduce the load on the main system. If your email database reaches the current size limit before automatic archiving begins, you have the option to archive your emails early. We should also mention here that you have the option to delete emails you no longer need.

Potentially dangerous attachments are blocked; encrypted attachments cannot be verified and are therefore moved to the spam quarantine. In this case, you will receive an email from Spam Quarantine Notification and can release the email yourself if necessary. However, it is better to share files via cloud storage rather than email. The university provides ownCloud for this purpose, where files are stored on our systems.
