The SAP Customer Centre of Expertise at BRZ GmbH develops and operates the SAP standard software and e-business solution for Austrian universities to manage their human resources business processes.

This provides the universities with a comprehensive business management software solution based on the standard SAP R/3 software. BRZ has been managing the application in live operation since 2005 and is responsible for both the customisation and updating of the software as well as the provision, operation and support of the IT infrastructure and software.

Under the University Act 2002, universities were separated from the federal government and established as public-law corporations. Since then, universities have been required to maintain accounts in accordance with the Commercial Code. In mid-2002, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BM:BWK) commissioned the general contractor Siemens Business Services to carry out the UNI.VERSE Accounting with SAP R/3 project for the universities, as a spin-off from the HV-SAP project. The BRZ provides the necessary services for hardware and software provision, as well as operation and support for the universities. UNI.VERSE has been in productive use since the beginning of April 2004.

• Secure access to the SAP system via the SAP GUI and Web GUI portals via VPN tunnels or LAN-to-LAN tunnels.

In 2013, work began on the implementation of theemployee portal, SAP ESS (Employee Self-Service). This allows personal data to be viewed. The following functions are currently in productive use:

• Employer benefits/payments
• Annual leave requests
• Business trip requests
• Overview of travel expense claims

NOTE: The SAP ESS portal is only accessible via the university network or via VPN.
